Mamma Mia!!!Love Actually Is Eveywhere!!!!!!

Mamma Mia!

Have you seen the movie? Starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. OMG! It is amazing. I liked the fact that Meryl Streep was not looking all uptight and she cracked a move or too...I cannot get over the movie, even though it has some... scenes and all that are not good but the movie is wonderful. Anytime I see a movie, I focus on the good points and the good points were the importance of friendship, family and the joy of CONTENTMENT. There were also famous ABBA renditions like Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen. It is a musical comedy and one of my personal favourites..after Hairspray though.

Then I watched... Love Actually. OMG! The tag line is love actually is everywhere or love is actually everywhere (one of the two)...not sure which one. Anyways, I enjoyed the movie. It is a British romantic comedy starring, Hugh Grant (alwyas loved him), Colin Firth (He was in Mamma Mia), Laura Linney, Emma Thompson (Nanny Mcphee), Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribean), Nigerian's own Chiwetel Ejiofor and the famous Rowan Atkinson A.K.A Mr Bean.

Well, the movie features various love stories that connect a the movie progresses and yes like Mamma Mia it has those kinda scenes, but the thing about this movie is that it focuses mainly on the importance of love and not love as sex but love as what it is..beautiful. We see Hugh Grant, torn between his reputation as Prime Minister and going out with one of his workers. We see Colin Firth in love with his Portugese housekeeper and goes to learn the language 'cause of her. We see Laura Linney making a choice between the guy she has loved for two years or her brother who is in an institution... the movie is just...almost perfect.

Yea, there are some glitches and things I don't agree with but the fact remains that the movie is wonderful teaching the importanc eof love between friends, family and also among lovers. It really has made me think about the people in my life and I NEED TO TELL THEM I LOVE THEM! I love you mum, I love you dad, Love you my siblings, love you YWAP!!! I love you every blogger who blogs well...

So if you have not seen these movies go watch them. They are all on DVD and I know you will enjoy them. I will hola soon. I need to go watch Eagle Eye. It stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosario Dawson and Billy Bob Thornton and I hear it is amazing.

Till my next post...

The 'Jenifa' In You

Yes, there is a 'Jenifa' in you and I am still very much sane OK?

Have you seen Jenifa? I know most of you have. Well if you haven't, I'll give a short summary. OK, there's dis chic (Funke Akindele) who is from the village but is about to attend the university in Lagos. So she gets there and changes her name from Suliat to Jenifa and tries to be a 'bigs gal'. Anyways, she tries so hard to fit in by sleeping around and she ends up with AIDS and becomes an HIV advocate.

OK, I know i gave a poor narrative but really the movie is amazing. Seriously, I am not a fan of Nigerian movies, talk less of a Yoruba movie but it starred Bisi from I Need To Know and she looked so cute, so I just had to watch and I LOVED IT!

But that's not the issue. My point is the movie revealed something to me. Something all thou judgemental critics will never see. That there is a Jenifa in every one of us.

Let me make my point clearer now for the benefit of your understanding.

1. Jenifa did not have a problem. All she wanted was to be a big girl... to fit in

Look at that closely and I am sure it reminds you of someone. YOU! YES...YOU!!!

Now, most of us humans want to fit in... We want to fit in... roll with the cool crowd...be in good terms with out family members... we want to fit in with our friends...we want to SO BADLY BE A PART OF SOMETHING.

Now, you can be annoyed at this point and refuse to accept that Jenifa in you. Well, if there is anything I have learnt in this my short time in life...it is to be real.

We want to fit it. It is who we are. That is how we were created. We can't deny it. WE WANT TO FIT IN. And trust me, it is good to want to fit it...sometimes....BUT

The greatest point of an individuals life is a point where they accept who they are. If you are 60 years old and you have not accepted yourself, you have not started living. If you don't love yourself, if you don't fit in with yourself...It is not so good. God says...Love your neighbour as YOURSELF. This means you cannot love someone else if you don't love GOD and yourself first.

All I am saying is accept who you are, you saw what happened to Suliat kan... She got AIDS... if we continue to act or behave like something or someone we are not, we may get a disease, a disease that may not only hurt your body but your soul. I used to want to fit in with the coolest writers and bloggers. Someone said my blog wasn't for intellectual people. I felt bad. I wanted the famous authors and writers to read my blog. I wanted my blog to be for intellectuals and trust me I tried to be like that. I tried writing in 'intellectual' mode and I hated my posts

But when I accepted that, I am an intellectual and I dictate the rules on my blogspace and if your intellectualism is different from mine then GOOD RIDDANCE... this blogger doesn't play by the rules cuz in blogville...there are no rules...Now i blog with so much confidence that I feel i write better than those who have Nobel laurels. (OK... I take that back)

So get rid of the Jenifa in you... Accept yourself. Be yourself. Don't try to fit in. You just be you cause God loves you...

Till my next post...

Did You Know? (Vol. 1)

Introducing a new occasional series here. It's called "Did You Know?" It's a brain-dump of things I know which you may not know. My dream is for it to be educational, fun, and entertaining all at the same time. My dream is also to be able to start a sentence with "My dream is..." and not start rolling my eyes and laughing at myself before I even get to the end of the sentence. Unless you're an iconic civil rights leader, it's hard to take a person seriously when they start talking about their "dream." I always expect something about rainbows and unicorns to follow.

Anyway.

Did You Know?

According to the King James Version of Leviticus 11:29-30, these things are unclean to you: weasels, mice, tortoises, ferrets, chameleons, lizards, snails, and moles.

According to the New International Version of Leviticus 11:29-30, these things are unclean to you: weasels, rats, any kind of great lizard, geckos, monitor lizards, wall lizards, skinks, and chameleons. I think it's clear that the NIV translators had some sort of crazy lizard-phobia.

An Englishman named John Wroe unsuccessfully predicted the end of the world in 1863. He also fancied himself something of a Messianic figure. He made two attempts (also unsuccessful) to walk on water, and once invited the public to no less than his own circumcision. Right. Ew. Even better? He was a hunchback.

A duck's quack does not echo. The reason for this remains a mystery to scientists.

Speaking of ducks...In 1809, a fortuneteller named Mary Bateman in Yorkshire, England, started advertising the fact that she owned a magic chicken. The bird's superpower included the ability to lay prophetic eggs -- the chicken would grunt, squawk, and pop out eggs with prophetic writing on them. One of them seemed to indicate that the return of Jesus Christ was imminent. Mary spills the news, and suddenly the entire community shows up at her doorstep to get a gander at the Chicken of Doom. Unfortunately, someone peeks into the henhouse before Mary and the chicken are ready, and sees Mary furtively stuffing an egg up the chicken's, um, egg-laying orifice. The apocalyptic poultry show is forced to close.

That last one had nothing to do with ducks at all. Sorry about that.

Butterflies taste with their feet. Ducks taste with their mouth and tongues, just like you and me.

Almonds and pistachios are the only nuts mentioned in the Bible. Unless you count guys like Ezekiel and Jeremiah.

Human beings are physically unable to touch their lips to their elbow.

You just tried to kiss your elbow.

In the 14th century, Saint Catherine of Siena had a famous vision in which Jesus placed his amputated foreskin on her finger as a wedding ring. And apparently this was considered a good dream.

Elephants' feet are entirely flat on the bottom. This comes from jumping out of trees.

Not really. That last one was entirely untrue. Sorry.

You probably can't think of an English word that rhymes with "month."

That's because there isn't one.

You can type the word "stewardess" using only your left hand on the keyboard. And the word "typewriter" is the longest word you can type using only a single row on a keyboard.

I happen to be wearing black jeans, black socks, black shoes, and a black shirt today. But I am not depressed. I am not Steve Jobs either. I am, however, a mime. And I am freaking tired of being trapped in this glass box.

This list of random facts is now over. Have a nice day.

We do Need a REVOLUTION IN NOLLYWOOD

Ok,so I join this group and read dis and I could not stop laughing...

When was the last time anyone was excited about seeing a Nigerian movie?
who here can pay 1500 Naira to watch a Nigerian movie at the cinemas?
Has there ever been box office hit in Nigeria?
how about summer blockbusters? never heard of those in Nigeria...
why can't they make movies about great people/ events like FELA, WOLE SOYINKA, YEMI TELLA, NIGER DELTA CRISIS and the likes of em... why make movies about LOVE LOVE LOVE
Still we claim to be the 3rd largest in the world..PLEASE!!!!!!!!! let's call a spade a spade

25 Rules all Nollywood movies must Follow

1. Every problem you have is spiritual.

2. In every romance movie, someone must die.

3. It is possible to hit a person without actually touching them!

4. Anyone who gets hit by a car dies immediately.

5. Poisoned food always tastes better.

6. The best way to make money is by visiting a babalawo/joining a cult/sleeping with rich men.

7. One of a pair of twins (identical or not) is born evil.

8. There is never an end to your suffering, except death!

9. With a pastor, all things are possible.

10. A movie can be titled anything such as:

*The boy is mine, The girl is yours, The child is theirs
* Face me, I face you
* Kill me,I kill you,
* Two cockroaches in Africa
*Two rats,
*Spanner,
*Calculator,
*Computer
*The Driver
*Igala,
*Ijele,
*Olodo,
*Mumu,
*Wawa,
*Igodo,
*Igudu
*Shigidi
*Wakadugu

11. A movie has not been made if at least one actor/actress has not twisted his/her lips to speak wrong phonetics.

12.. You are in love. You want to take your girl out and the best place you take her to is:

*Mr. Biggs/Tantalizers: where you'll most probably see an ex while feeding each other.

*The beach: where it is imperative that you ride a donkey and carry her playfully.
*Or the best: take her to buy some new ugly clothes.

13. An Igbo movie has been made if
* You visit a babalawo
* A fleet of cars is shown off at regular intervals for a total of half of the movie time.
* Kanayo O Kanayo is in the movie. Pete Udochie is also there too!
* To get rich it is mandatory you join a cult

14. Gun shots and knock-outs sound the same!

15. Sometimes the title has absolutely nothing to do with the movie and other times, once you read the
title and see the poster you know it all!!! (Also the soundtrack gives you a headache because it just
narrates the whole story repeatedly - so much for suspense and intrigue!)

16. A love story has not been produced if it does not have one or two of the following actresses-

* Stella Damasus
* Stephanie Okereke
* Genevieve Nnaji
* Omotola Jalade
* Rita Dominic

17. The police are extremely 'efficient' unlike their counterparts in real life.

18. An actress can wear the same hairdo for more than 3 years and even in longer flashbacks.

19. It is permissible to wear very dark shades at night!

20. When you are shot in the chest, it really doesn't matter; your head will be bandaged! Same for your legs!

21. When advertising a movie, you really should shout because... people are deaf?

22. When you are extremely poor, you will still be able to afford- very good furniture, T.V., but you won't be able to send your kids to school.
23. Most especially in Yoruba movies, your gateman must be inefficient and comical. He MUST dress like a
freak, be rude to all your visitors and never mind his business.

24.the bad guy always dies or gets caught by none other than the police- LOL!!!!

25. At the end of a three hour movie you'll be reminded that THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING...WATCH OUT FOR PART 2!

This group was created for youths to constructively critcize the Nigerian movie industry because the youths revoultionized the Nigerian music industry which is now credible ... i think its time we do that to our movie industry
we can't seat back and let these "scavengers" destroy our Heritage...invite your friends, let's unite and change our movie industry.. the power is in your hands

WE MUST TAKE A STAND!!!!!!

truly Beautiful

Hola! I am here again and I am so happy. Exams are almost through and God has shown himself strong in my papers. Another reason I am happy is because of the wonderful things God has been teaching me this past few weeks. I have learnt so much and he has been giving me a Word for you again. Trust me; I deliver it as He says. Sometimes I do not believe what he is telling me but He has said it so I have to say it so listen up people!

Life is beautiful. Amidst the pain and all the anguish, it is still beautiful. Trust me, this is something I know and is confirmed by the Word. Life is so beautiful. We have everything we need and more.

I know what it feels to know pain, depression, to want to fit in, to wonder if there is a God, to wonder why nothing works together for your good even when you believe. Yes, I have been down that road before and it is not an easy road but the Word from the Lord is that He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time (Ecc 3:11a). Matthew’s Henry Concise Commentary says:

Everything is as God made it; not as it appears to us. We have the world so much in our hearts, are so taken up with thoughts and cares of worldly things, that we have neither time nor spirit to see God's hand in them. The world has not only gained possession of the heart, but has formed thoughts against the beauty of God's works. We mistake if we think we were born for ourselves; no, it is our business to do good in this life, which is short and uncertain; we have but little time to be doing good, therefore we should redeem time. Satisfaction with Divine Providence is having faith that all things work together for good to them that love him. God doeth all, that men should fear before him. The world, as it has been, is, and will be. There has no change befallen us, nor has any temptation by it taken us, but such as is common to men.

From this, we see that we need to TAKE A BREAK! I mean, everything has being worked out for us. All we need to do is trust God enough that even though you have been through so much pain; your pain would be turned to beauty. I think we should get to a point where we begin to look at the big picture. Even the world tells us to look at things by looking at the big picture. The mere thought of heaven should be an encouragement to us. Paul, The Apostle said ‘for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us’ (Rom 8:18). This verse of scripture is so amazing and it is one of my personal favourites. Trust me, when Paul wrote this, he was suffering more than any of us can imagine. However, in the midst of his sufferings and persecution he could say this. I mean come on people. We can do it. Just trust God, I know I may not know how much you are hurting or what you are going through exactly but remember 'He gives beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified' (Isa 61:3). God wants to take the glory. He wants a situation that when he steps into your situation, HE AND ONLY HE will get the glory. So my dear friend, take a chill pill, get your dance on ‘cause your glory is coming back. Life is beautiful, Baby! Enjoy... God ‘no dey’ disappoint.

Till my next post,

I remain, The Talkaholic
